The Hotpoint HWF filter is actually a GE GWF/MWF cartridge which has been relabelled - Not an altogether uncommon thing in the fridge industry since manufacturers will often produce a fridge as a 'shared' project and then choose to distribute them in different parts of the world. Whilst this is an original cartridge it may be supplied with GE labelling, however, in any event this cartridge has come from a GE factory and it will definitely match the specification as set by Hotpoint.
The HWF is a block carbon cartridge which fits a little like a light-bulb (push up and twist). It is designed to remove chlorine, sediment and dissolved organics, improving the taste of the water and keeping problematic sediment from the internals off the fridge.
